The Miyabi Aizome Dyed Single Layer Kendogi is a lightweight traditional Keikogi made from soft, comfortable cotton fabric and dyed with traditional Japanese Aizome. Its single-layer construction offers a lighter feel, while the deep indigo finish provides a classic high-class appearance.
The Miyabi Aizome Dyed Single Layer Kendogi is an excellent choice for Kendoka looking for a lighter-weight traditional Keikogi without compromising on appearance or comfort. Made from soft, comfortable cotton and traditionally dyed with Aizome, this high-quality Kendogi offers a classic Japanese aesthetic that is well suited to regular Kendo practice.
For a complete and affordable uniform, this Miyabi Single Layer Kendogi can be combined with the H-7 Lightweight Indigo dyed Hakama to create a traditional Keikogi and Hakama set.
Traditional Aizome Indigo Dye
This Keikogi is dyed using Aizome, the traditional indigo dye widely used throughout Japanese culture. Aizome is particularly valued for its distinctive deep indigo appearance and is traditionally favoured for its antibacterial qualities, which can help reduce fabric deterioration in humid conditions.
The natural character of Aizome also means that the colour is not completely fixed. Some indigo dye transfer and rubbing off should be expected during normal use.
Lightweight Single Layer Construction
The single layer construction provides a lighter alternative to heavier traditional Kendo Keikogi, making this Miyabi model a practical choice for Kendoka who prefer a less bulky garment while retaining a traditional appearance.
The soft cotton fabric provides a comfortable feel during training.

Hand Wash Only
The Miyabi Aizome Kendogi should be gently hand washed. Avoid aggressive washing or harsh agitation, as this can cause excessive dye loss and may damage the cotton fabric.
Use Gentle Detergent
Wash using a mild detergent and avoid bleach or harsh chemical cleaning products, which can affect both the cotton fabric and the indigo colour.
Avoid Excessive Heat
Allow the Kendogi to dry naturally. Avoid high-temperature drying, which can unnecessarily stress the cotton fibres and affect the garment's fit and appearance.
Dry Thoroughly
Make sure the Kendogi is completely dry before storing it. Do not leave damp Aizome cotton folded or packed away, as this can encourage unpleasant odours and fabric deterioration.
Please note: Aizome is not a fully fixed dye. Indigo colour transfer is a natural characteristic of the garment, so some blue rubbing off should be expected through general contact and use. The changing and gradual fading of indigo is part of the natural character of an Aizome-dyed Kendogi.
This is a normal characteristic of traditionally indigo-dyed Kendo clothing rather than a manufacturing defect.
For this reason, take care when wearing the Kendogi against light-coloured clothing, equipment or surfaces. Consider storing the Kendogi separately from light-coloured clothing and other items that could be stained by loose dye.
