Shinken Mei - Shiro Kunitada (四郎國忠)
A member of the distinguished Shiro Kunimitsu swordsmith lineage, whose history dates back to 1786. For more than two centuries, the family has preserved the traditions of Japanese blade making in the Fukuoka Prefecture.
Following the Haitōrei edict of the early Meiji period, which prohibited samurai from carrying swords, the family adapted their skills to produce high-quality kitchen knives and carpentry tools, earning patents and utility models while safeguarding their forging techniques.
This family has remained dedicated to the highest standards of modern Japanese swordsmithing, with its members regularly exhibiting their work in prestigious Shinsakutō exhibitions. This commitment to preserving tradition while continually pursuing excellence reflects the enduring spirit of their lineage, whose swords are admired by practitioners and collectors alike for their craftsmanship, beauty, and authenticity.
Every blade reflects the enduring qualities that have made Japanese swords admired for centuries — an exceptional balance of elegance, beauty, and strength. In addition to katana, the family also crafts traditional hand-forged knives using the same steel and methods employed in sword making.
