This blade features characteristics inspired by the Bizen-den (備前伝), one of the Gokaden (Five Great Traditions) of Japanese swordsmithing and the most influential school in the history of the Nihontō.
Shinken Mei - Shiro Kunimitsu
For over 200 years, the Shiro Kunimitsu family has preserved the traditions of Japanese sword smithing in the countryside of Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture. Having studied under his grandfather, the first-generation Shiro Kunimitsu, the current master continues a lineage dedicated to creating authentic Japanese swords through time-honoured techniques passed down across generations.
Every blade reflects the enduring qualities that have made Japanese swords admired for centuries — an exceptional balance of elegance, beauty, and strength. In addition to katana, the family also crafts traditional hand-forged knives using the same steel and methods employed in sword making.
As a modern Japanese swordsmith, Shiro Kunimitsu draws upon centuries of accumulated knowledge while honouring the legacy of Japan's great sword making traditions. His work embodies the careful balance of form and function that defines the finest Japanese blades, where graceful Sugata, refined steel, and a beautifully executed Hamon come together in perfect harmony.
Each sword is forged with the same dedication to craftsmanship that has distinguished his family for generations, resulting in blades appreciated not only by martial artists, but also by collectors who value the artistry and heritage of Japanese sword making.
