Guest Post: Charity Kendo Championships 2018 - K.Matsuda

Posted On: 14 July 2018

The Kendo Charity Championships sponsors both Maggie's Centres and Macmillan Cancer Support and this year we celebrated the 10th year since our journey started back in 2009, in Cardiff. This year's event was held in memory of Mr Trevor Chapman, one of our long time sponsors and our very dear friend, who fought cancer but sadly passed away last October.

The Championships include Junior Individual competitions by age including groups in armour and non-armour, the Junior Team event known as the Sakura Cup, the Family Team event for the Hiroshi Ozawa Fighting Spirit Shield and the 'finale' a Kachinuki match - Maggie's vs Macmillan, for which one individual with the best performance is awarded the Kashinoki Plate.

Shortly after the lunch break the Auction of items was held, with all the money made going to both charities. The Parents Competition followed and this year the theme was a Sumo Game.

We had participants from around the UK totalling more than 100 people gathering in Watford and who took part and watched the only family kendo competition held in the UK.

Many thanks to Nine Circles Ltd for their support and supplying the prizes each year. Details of the event can be found here in this link: www.kendocharity.org.uk

Our thoughts are with those people fighting cancer and their families today.
