The Hon Koshirae is the entry level Iaito model in Minosaka’s standard/heavy weight range. The hilt fittings of this piece are in the distinctive Guribori style, a technique originating in the Edo period, where layers of metal are fused, and then dramatic arabesque patterns are carved out, revealing the complex internal structure.
As these Fuchi Kashira are cast, rather than layered, this style is emulated by a blackening technique, creating a deep contrast between the polished silver surface and the dark spiralling baroque pattern.
Available in lengths of up to 2.70 Shaku, the Hon Koshirae is the perfect canvas for those looking for a heavier style of Iaito you can put your own stamp on.
