Natural red oak may develop surface wear through regular training. Check the Jo along its entire length for cracks, splits, splinters, deep dents or other damage. Pay particular attention to the ends and areas that experience frequent contact. Do not use a damaged staff during training.
After practice, wipe away sweat and moisture using a clean, dry cloth. Avoid soaking the wood or storing the Jo while damp, as prolonged moisture exposure can affect the natural timber.
Do not leave the Jo in direct sunlight, near radiators or inside a hot vehicle. Excessive heat and rapid environmental changes may contribute to warping or cracking.
Store the Jo in a dry, well-ventilated environment, away from excessive humidity and direct heat. Support it appropriately and avoid placing heavy objects on top of it, which may cause deformation.
